Julia Jackson – Succeeding In A Life Of Wine

Born in San Francisco, Julia Jackson is the second daughter of Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke, and a proprietor of Kendall-Jackson Winery, began by her father. During her youth, she, along with her brother and sister, spent many hours working in the vineyards owned by her parents. Jess Jackson believed in hard work and wanted his children to understand the importance of it. Julia has stated “My dad always made sure we appreciated what it took to become successful—I’ve never forgotten that.”

She graduated from Scripps College, part of the Claremont Colleges, in Southern California with a degree in Studio Art. She followed that up with completion of an intense summer course in General Management at Stanford.

Jackson is involved with Cambria Seeds of Empowerment, a non-profit organization. Inspired by their mother, Seeds of Empowerment was co-founded by Julia and her sister. It was designed to honor those woman who, having overcome hardship and adversity, now seek to uplift and empower others. Annual cash grants are awarded to non-profits that honor the goals of equality, community and spirit.

Sonoma is well known for Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs rather than Cabernets. However, Julia Jackson believes the best varietal coming from Sonoma is Verite’s La Joie, a Cabernet Bordeaux blend.

Owned by Jackson Family Wines since 2006, Arrowood, in Sonoma, produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, Riesling and both red and white Rhones. Located at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, the vineyards harvested for Arrowood’s wines are sustainably and organically grown.
